There are several ways to grip a hat, and rather than describe them
individually each time we use them in a trick we've put them all together
here on one page for you.
Whenever we mention one of these grips in a trick, we'll link to it
here in this section so that you know what we're talking about

Hold the hat by the brim with the fingers on the outside (top,
crown side) and the thumb on the inside.

The opposite of the outside grip. Hold the hat by the brim with the fingers on the inside. If you are using this grip for a throw of some
kind, spreading out your fingers inside the hat as much as possible will
result in a much more stable throw.

Hold the hand vertical with the palm forwards. Stick the thumb out to the front. This grip enables you to catch the hat in a modified outside grip.
With the hat on your head, hold your hand flat with the palm
against the back of your neck. You can "chop" the hat off your
head by moving your hand sharply upwards and knocking the hat forwards.
Put the first and ring fingers one side of the brim and the middle finger on the other side.
The picture shows the palm-up version of the fork grip, but the same thing can be done with the palm facing downwards. It is used on the front and back of the hat as well as the sides.

Grab a great big handful of the hat by the crown, so that your thumb, ring and little fingers are on the side of the crown and the rest of your fingers gripping the top.
