Description

Albert [VID] and Trebla [VID] throws

These are exactly the same as the throws with clubs. They work best with pancake throws.

Throw to Ankle [VID]

A single spin pancake throw to the Ankle Balance - we've also got some footage of this forward tumble variation [VID]

Over Arm Slide [VID]

Start with the plate in your right hand. Reach under your left arm, then slide it over your left arm where your collect it with your right hand.

Ass Catch [VID]

Throw the plate vertically, or slide it down your back, and then reach between your legs from in front and catch it.

Behind Back Catch - Other Hand [VID]

Throw the plate vertically from the side and catch it behind your back with the other hand.

Behind Back Catch - Same Hand [VID]

Throw the plate vertically from in front of you, then catch it behind your back with the same hand.

High Catch From Behind Back [VID]

Throw the plate vertically from behind the your back and catch it in the other hand, held as high as possible.

Fake High Catch To Behind Back Catch

Throw the plate high, then reach up as if you're going to catch it at arm's length. Miss it with your high hand, let it fall, and loop your throwing hand behind your back. Catch it at waist level.

Chop

Hold the plate flat in your left hand. With your right hand chop down on the left side of plate so that the plate spins through the air (once or more) before landing flat on left hand again.

Basic Slide [VID]

Hold the plate in the 'elbow balance'. Drop your elbow so that the plate slides along your arm towards the floor, then catch it at the last possible moment.

Elbow to Elbow [VID]

From the elbow balance, throw the plate, making sure that most of the impetus comes from the knees, and catch it on the other side in an elbow balance.

Foot to Elbow [VID]

From an ankle balance, throw the plate with a single flip, and catch it in an elbow balance.

Flourishes [VID]

Hold the plate in your left hand, move your right hand in a vertical clockwise circle and throw the plate flat so that your right hand goes completely around the plate and then catches it. Repeat the whole thing with your left hand.

Fred [VID]

Hold the plate flat, by its edge. Spin it horizontally, and take your arm all the way round it, then catch it again in the same hand. Once you've got it try this variation [VID].

Derf [VID]

This is the exact reverse of Fred, it lends itself to the Derf Transfer [VID]

Behind Head Catch [VID]

Throw the plate vertically from one side and catch it with your other hand behind your head.

Above Head Catch [VID]

Throw a pancake throw, and catch it with your other hand above head. The catch is easier if you stick your thumb forward like a coat peg.

Under the Leg Throws [VID]

Reach under your left leg with the plate in your right hand, and throw it back across to the right. Quickly get your right hand out of the way, put it under your right leg and catch the plate there

Under Leg Catch [VID]

Throw the plate vertically and catch it under the leg (on the left side of right leg with right hand).

Under Leg Penguin Catch [VID]

Throw the plate vertically and catch it under your leg (on the right side of your right leg with your right hand).

Last Second Leg-trap

Toss the plate up high, parallel to your body. Drop down onto the ground and stick your legs into the air. When the plate comes down, trap the plate between your legs.

Pirouette

Hold the plate in your right hand, throw it flat and straight up, pirouette and catch it.

Shoulder Slide [VID]

Start in the elbow balance, raise your elbow and allow the plate to slide so that it passes over top of your shoulder and then slides down other arm to be caught.

Slam Down [VID]

Hold the plate in your left hand and do a flat throw vertically upwards. Bring your right hand over top of plate and push it forcefully back into your left hand.

Tap Back [VID]

Start with a pancake throw; after half a spin tap the plate with your fingers so that the spin is reversed. Catch it again when it returns to its original position.

Trouser Catch [VID]

Slide the plate down your back and allow the plate to catch and stay in the back of your trousers. What comedy!

Turnover Throws

Turnovers (especially one-handed) can be used as a way into lots of throws - behind the back and under the leg are good starting points.

Turnover Catches

Flat throws lend themselves very nicely to being caught in a one-handed turnover. Practice throwing the plate gently upwards and catching the plate on the side of the palm, pushing straight into a turnover. Once you've got that try behind the back or under the leg throws.

Twister

Hold the plate waiter style on the tips of your fingers and thumb. Give it an anti-clockwise spin and let it drop onto the base of your thumb. The spin will carry it along your arm, and with practice you can make it stop in the 'elbow balance' position.

Willy Catch [VID]

Throw the plate vertically, then reach between your legs from behind and catch the plate in front of your crotch.
