This table is an ongoing list of the tricks that Nigel and Mike can do or are working on with the ball and parasol. There's no video as we can't do them all yet - but we hope it provides you with some ideas and inspiration.
If you have any more ideas please get in touch - use the contacts button on the left of your screen.

Description |
Standard Spin |
Hold the parasol at eye level with the ball on top. Isolate the ball and spin the parasol under it.
For extra points hold the parasol above the head and look through at the shadow to control it. |
Inside Spin |
Hold the parasol so it is upside down near the knees. Isolate the ball and spin the parasol under it. |
Standard Roll |
Hold the parasol at eye level with the ball on top. Roll the ball in a circle around the canopy without spinning the handle. |
Inside Roll |
Hold the parasol so it is upside down near the knees. Roll the ball around the inside of the parasol without spinning the handle. |
False Roll | Hold the parasol above the head and trap the ball so it sitting between to ribs. Spin the handle of the parasol in the fingers so the ball appears to be rolling around the canopy. |
False Inside Roll |
Hold the parasol so it is upside down near the knees and trap the ball so it sitting between to ribs. Spin the handle of the parasol in the fingers so the ball appears to be rolling around the inside of the canopy. |
Floor Work |
Try all of the above with the base of the handle or the ferrule on the floor (or an outstretched foot/knee) |
Isolations |
The Standard Roll, Inside Roll, False Roll and False Inside Roll can all be executed as an "isolation". The idea is to keep the ball still enough for it to appear that the parasol is moving but the ball is not. It will take a long time and a lot of practice to make the illusion convincing; it might even be worth it. |
Basic Transfer |
Throw and catch from outside to inside (and back again). |
Butterfly Transfer |
Move from outside to inside using a contact juggling style "Butterfly" |
Body Circle |
Start from an inside roll and then swing the parasol out so it pointing down at an angle of about 45 degrees and swing it round to the side. When it reaches the back transfer hands and continue to the front. Repeat as necessary. We need to work out if the ball is rolling relative to the parasol here or is trapped between two ribs |
Vertical Circle |
Start with the ball on the inside of the parasol and swing it in a vertical circle, like swinging a bucket full of water. The centre of the circle can be either the end of the handle or the shoulder. |
Curls |
With the ball on the inside of the parasol, you swing the parasol in one horizontal circle below your arm then one above (or combinations thereof). |
Opener |
Start with parasol horizontal, pointing away from you and mostly closed, left hand on handle and right hand on "slider" opening bit. Balance the ball on on the parasol above your right hand. Throw or roll the ball up whilst opening parasol into position for standard spin. |
Chest Rolls |
All of these require you to hold the parasol so that the canopy is touching the arm near the elbow:
1)Funky start: Ball in one hand, parasol in the other, chest roll ball
onto parasol.
2) Funky finish/interrupt: Chest roll ball from parasol to empty hand
3) Trick (2) but instead of receiving ball in empty hand, move arm to return ball straight onto parasol after the chest roll.
4) Roll from parasol, as ball crosses chest, switch the parasol into what
would be the receiving hand, roll ball onto parasol.
5) 2 parasols, chest roll ball from one to the other |
